Decarbonizing in building products means reducing the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the built environment, from material production to building performance over time. Embodied carbon is the emissions generated through extracting, manufacturing, transporting, installing, maintaining and managing materials at end of life. Operational carbon is the emissions tied to the energy used to heat, cool, light and run buildings throughout their service life. For architects, owners and builders, decarbonization is a practical way to make more informed material choices that support long-term building performance and lower environmental impact.
This work matters across both new construction and retrofit projects. With the buildings and construction sector responsible for over 40%* of global greenhouse gas emissions, reducing carbon is a current design and specification priority. AWIP supports this effort by developing high-performance building envelope solutions that help reduce embodied carbon, improve energy efficiency and advance more sustainable building strategies with greater transparency and confidence.
Innovations such as InnovaCELLTM technology improve insulation performance while optimizing material use and long-term durability.
A breakthrough in durability, thermal efficiency and sustainability, InnovaCELL Technology delivers on our commitment to energy efficiency and circularity. InnovaCELL Technology supports a circular economy by using recycled PET bottles in the foam and promotes energy efficiency through an increased R-value.

The OneDek whitepaper highlights how insulated roof deck systems contribute to energy efficiency, reduced thermal bridging, and lifecycle performance.
A comparative study evaluated OneDek against a conventional low-slope warehouse roof assembly across five U.S. regions, measuring embodied carbon, raw material mass and installation efficiency. Across all modeled locations, OneDek delivered 19% to 21% lower embodied carbon per square foot. In Georgia, California and Texas, typical assemblies measured 9.9 kgCO2e/SF compared to 8.0 kgCO2e/SF for OneDek. In Washington, D.C., and Minnesota, typical assemblies measured 11.3 kgCO2e/SF compared to 8.9 kgCO2e/SF for OneDek.
The study also found that OneDek reduced raw material mass by 51% to 55% compared with typical assemblies. By consolidating multiple roofing components into a more integrated system, OneDek helps reduce material demand, streamline construction and minimize on-site complexity. These outcomes support practical, low-carbon building strategies for architects, owners and project teams seeking measurable progress in building envelope performance.

Energy efficiency & envelope performance strategies

AWIP products are engineered to deliver superior thermal performance, durability, and efficiency — helping reduce operational energy consumption while supporting sustainable building practices.
AWIP is committed to offering transparent, lower embodied carbon products by decarbonizing our manufacturing processes and supply chain. We support informed material selection through transparent reporting and certifications, including:
AWIP has over 30 third-party verified EPDs available on our website, including product-specific and site-specific EPDs that provide the most granular data for informed decision-making.
An EPD tells the lifecycle story of a product in a single, written report, focusing on information about a product's environmental impacts, such as global warming potential (GWP), smog creation, ozone depletion potential (ODP), and water pollution. EPDs do not rank products, and the existence of an EPD for a product does not indicate that environmental performance criteria have been met.
AWIP has made significant advancements in our EPD process to ensure unparalleled transparency and accuracy. Our EPDs now include detailed information on product configurations, such as foam type, steel type and plant location, removing uncertainty factors and delivering more granular data.
These improvements align with AWIP's Planet Passionate targets, particularly our commitment to reducing carbon intensity and increasing the use of recycled raw materials. By integrating these enhanced EPDs into our sustainability strategy, we empower our customers to design and build with confidence, knowing they are making environmentally responsible choices.
We're proud of maintaining our GREENGUARD Gold Certification for InnovaCELL Technology. Certification ensures compliance with California's Section 01350 and can provide credits to several building rating systems. To achieve GREENGUARD Gold certification, we worked with UL Environment to ensure the testing methodology is best in class.
An important part of AWIP's ethos has always been to lead the industry in innovation and third-party certification. Achieving the GREENGUARD Gold stamp shows that we can provide products that are good for both the built environment and the human environment. We also believe it will push forward the metal panel industry by raising the bar.

Insulated metal panels support the construction of resource-efficient building projects that seek certification by incorporating a range of design and material choices. Even when projects do not seek certification, pursuing the goals of green building will lead to more informed design decisions that are better for people and the planet.
To meet our Planet Passionate targets, we have developed decarbonization levers to reduce our Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions (including potential impacts from organic growth). Decarbonization of Scope 3 emissions is pursued through improved data collection and reporting mechanisms, further development of our supplier engagement program and continued product innovation with lower environmental impacts.
AWIP is committed to the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of the information disclosed in our Planet Passionate Report. As such, we engage a qualified independent third party to provide external assurance on the reported data.
As part of our alignment with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), we're setting a new standard for our transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting. AWIP's environmental data, including energy use, emissions, product lifecycle and waste, apply under the CSRD.
By embedding CSRD principles into our operations, we aim to provide stakeholders with clear, comprehensive and actionable insights into our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
The CSRD shifts how companies document and disclose their sustainability efforts. AWIP's approach to the CSRD focuses on three pillars:

Looking ahead to our 2030 goals, we're integrating the findings from our comprehensive assessments gathered during 2023 and 2024 into our sustainability strategy.
